Intro

This cannot be undone.

Your first – and for a moment, only thought, after you had ascended into the darkness. The stairway that you had chosen, the point of entry, was rather unassuming. Inside a house now abandoned, it was just a stairway to an attic. You could see the dirty bootprints on the old and worn wooden stairs; you had not been the only one to choose this point of entry.

But all that is now your past, and in the present, you find yourself in the dark attic, feeling your way carefully towards a door in the distance. By the layout of the house, this door should not be there at all, but you know that you aren't really in an attic anymore. This is someplace else, a limbo between everything you left behind, and that which lies beyond the door.

Navigating the darkness, you push something aside – some nondescript object, and something about it makes you pause. You debate whether to take it or not – it could be nothing, or it could be something. You may draw a card for an Item, but cannot yet see what exactly it is.

You reach it, feeling the damp and cold wooden surface of the door under your touch... and through its seams you can see light, hear the birds sing, feel the daylight warmth. You push through, with more force than you had anticipated, as the door struggles to turn in its hinges. But finally it yields, and the warmth and light of a beautiful summer's day overwhelms you, until you get back on your bearings.

You arise from a root cellar, to face a cottage burned black. You begin in the Black Cabin ➚.
